I have a weakness for older guys who think they’re washed up, finding love. Boku no Omawari-san / My Pretty Policeman has that premise.

Seiji Tajima is a single, forty-something former cop with PTSD is currently working at his family’s shop. Shin Nakamoto, a current cop–a delinquent that Seiji reformed (going by the raws)–has been assigned to Seiji’s district.

They reconnect and have a cute interaction with a little girl who thinks she’s been ripped-off by the vending machine–turns out, she couldn’t read that the price had been raised by ten yen. Shin gives the little girl a ten yen coin so she can get her purchase. Seiji gives him ten to pay him back.. which becomes this cute little roundabout when the little girl goes to the police station to repay Shin.

When Shin returns to Seiji’s shop with the ten yen coin, he also passes on the message that one of his colleagues can’t make a planned gathering, he’s found a group date with a bunch of nurses. Seiji whines about how he can’t land a girlfriend and he jokes that he should turn to men. After all, the last group date he went on, he accidentally set up two of his guy friends and they’re now dating and they seem pretty happy so…

This prompts Shin to kiss him–hard and offer that if Seiji is going to go gay that he go gay with him.

The whole interaction leaves Seiji breathless and confused and who knows what might have happened if that damn vending machine wasn’t confusing people, since an old lady burst in complaining that she didn’t get what she wanted when she put in her 100 yen.

The rest of the raws are posted, so one presumes this on will be updated soon. Which is good because it actually looks cute and funny and hot.

I really like the art style, plus I not only love doofus forty-somethings, but I also love dudes who are 190 cm/ 6’2″…. and are kind of clueless about how they loom.

So, yes, thumbs up for this one. The only bummer is that more of it hasn’t been translated. The raws make it look like we’re going to be treated to an interesting backstory, too.
